What song is used in the Hop Hop Hop Dance?
Last updated:
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts lately, you’ve heard the relentless, bouncy beat of the Hop Hop Hop Dance challenge. But what is the actual track playing behind the four-beat squash-and-swap routine? Here is the complete factual story behind the viral Russian phonk hit “Её парень” by Shluzov.
The official track: “Её парень” (Her Boyfriend) by Shluzov
The signature track powering the global dance craze is titled “Её парень” (which translates from Russian to “Her Boyfriend”), performed by Russian artist Shluzov (featuring NeShluzov). Released as a modern Russian phonk and electro-pop track, it features distorted 808 bass, punchy percussion, and an aggressive, rhythmic vocal cadence.
While the song initially circulated on Eastern European streaming playlists, TikTok sound creators quickly recognized that the chorus possesses a uniquely hypnotic groove that locks into physical movement.
Deconstructing the lyrics: Why is it called “Hop Hop Hop”?
The dance meme gets its name directly from the phonetic rhyme scheme of the Russian chorus.
Non-Russian speakers across the globe immediately resonated with the catchy rhythmic repetition of “топ-топ-топ” (stomping steps) and “хоп-хоп-хоп” (bouncing hops). The unmistakable “hop-hop-hop” phonetic bounce quickly became the universal title for the entire squash-and-swap dance routine.
The slowed-and-reverb remix that sparked the dance choreography
The original studio version of “Её парень” is fast-paced at over 140 BPM. However, the viral sensation was ignited when TikTok creators—most notably transition creators and anime editors—slowed the tempo down to approximately 85% to 90%, pitched down the vocal frequencies, and boosted the sub-bass.
This slowed-and-reverb remix created the perfect temporal spacing for the four-beat comedy choreography: two seconds for the foreground point, three crisp downbeats for the triple hop, two seconds for the forced-perspective palm press, and a sudden hard cut at 4.3 seconds to swap places.
